This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies (like browser local storage) Kwanda uses on kwanda.co, and why. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers how we handle the personal data these technologies may involve.
What are cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. We also use browser local storage for a couple of the same jobs - it works differently under the hood, but from a privacy point of view it does the same thing, so we've grouped it in here rather than writing a separate policy for it.
Strictly necessary
These keep the site and your account working. They're set automatically and can't be turned off, because the site doesn't function correctly without them.
- firebase-session - keeps you signed in.
- session-checked - a short-lived flag so we don't re-check your session on every single request.
- kwanda-country - remembers your region, for currency and language.
- brand - remembers which version of the site you're seeing, if you've opted into an in-progress redesign.
- cookie_banner_accepted (local storage) - remembers the choice you make on the cookie banner, so we don't ask you again on every visit.
Functional
These support features specific to being a Kwanda member. Like the cookies above, they're necessary for those features to work, so they aren't part of the consent choice below.
- stripe-customer and stripe-subscription - link your account to your Stripe subscription, so we can show your contribution status correctly.
- kwanda-referral - remembers who referred you, so credit goes to the right villager.
- kwanda-tribe - remembers which tribe or team you've joined.
Analytics and advertising
If you're visiting from the UK or EU, these only load once you accept the cookie banner. If you're visiting from elsewhere, they load by default, and you can still opt out - see "Your choices" below.
- Google Analytics & Google Ads (gtag.js) - tells us how visitors find and use the site, and measures the performance of any ad campaigns we run.
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel - measures the performance of any ads we run on Facebook or Instagram.
We also use Plausible Analytics for site traffic. Plausible doesn't use cookies or collect personal data at all, so it isn't part of the consent choice below - it's on for every visitor.
Your choices
The cookie banner lets you accept or decline analytics and advertising cookies. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your cookies and local storage for kwanda.co, which brings the banner back. Strictly necessary and functional cookies can't be declined individually, because they're what make the site and your account work - if you don't want them set, the way to do that is to not use the site.
Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies directly in their settings. Doing this may stop parts of the site working, including staying signed in.
Changes
We'll update this page if what we use changes. If you have questions, email us at support@kwanda.co.
