Summary
We're proposing to use $2,700 from our village pot to equip a women’s craft workshop in Kigali with a shared button press and weaving materials.
At a women’s workshop in Kigali, a shared button press would make it possible to finish jackets on site instead of paying another workshop to fit the fasteners. We’d also fund weaving materials for the basket makers who work alongside the sewing team.

The Story
At Talking Through Art’s centre in Kigali, women with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities earn from their craft. Some weave baskets, while others sew jackets from reused fabric.
The sewing team can already cut and sew the jackets at the centre, but they have to go into town and pay another workshop to fit the metal fasteners. Purchasing a button press would let them finish that last step themselves, saving the trip and the finishing fee.

The press would stay at the centre for future batches of jackets, with Talking Through Art owning it and making it available without a fee. Alongside it, we’d fund sisal fibre, dyes and grasses for the basket makers.

The team plans to use sales income to buy more supplies and care for the press. Sales have been difficult this year, though, so better equipment and materials would help the women make products without guaranteeing more buyers.
That's all!
