A new vote: a shared button press in Rwanda

We’ve got a new proposal for you to vote on: £2,000 for a shared button press and basket-weaving materials at a workshop in Kigali, Rwanda.

The workshop, run by Talking Through Art, gives women with disabilities and women raising children with disabilities a place to earn from their craft. The sewing team already makes jackets, but has to pay another workshop to fit the fasteners. With their own press, they could finish the jackets themselves and save the trip and the fee.

We’ve budgeted £460 for the press, which would stay at the centre for everyone to use without a fee. The remaining £1,540 would buy sisal fibre, dyes and grasses for the basket makers working alongside them.

Sales have been difficult this year, so while this would help the women keep making products, it wouldn’t guarantee more buyers.

Read the proposal and vote by Wednesday 11 November.
