Menstrual kit prep underway for students at two rural Kenyan schools

Posted 29 Aug 2025
We are pleased to share this third progress update for Phase 2 of the Wings Poa Project, supported by Kwanda.
Schools have just reopened following the August holiday, and we are now planning the next round of menstrual hygiene training and kit distribution. These activities are scheduled to take place at:
Ngamba Secondary School
Lower Yatta Girls Secondary School
We are currently working with administrators at both schools to finalize dates and ensure a smooth rollout.
Activities undertaken:
Coordinated with school leadership at Ngamba and Lower Yatta Girls to plan upcoming kit distributions.
Completed screen printing of drawstring bags for packaging the kits.
Followed up with suppliers regarding a delayed shipment of PUL fabric.
Challenges:
Delayed PUL fabric shipment: This has temporarily halted production of shields and purses, which are essential components of the kits.
Paused LitMoms production: Work is currently on hold and will resume as soon as materials arrive.
Regardless of these delays, however, we remain confident that we will have a smooth rollout. As Eunice, a teacher at Ngamba Secondary School, shared:
I am looking forward to our girls receiving the kits. As teachers, we often step in to provide sanitary pads for students, but when we’re unable to do so, many girls end up missing school. These kits will make a significant difference in keeping them in class.
